Honda Civic Si revealed for the US

This morning, Honda unveiled their brand new Civic Si, a performance model that will slip in between the regular Civic and Type R, ahead of its official debut at the NY motor show.

The Civic Si comes in two bodystyles – sedan and coupe. Under the ‘hood’ (see what I did there) is an upgraded version of the 1.5L turbocharged I4 in th regular Civic, producing 153kW of power and 260Nm of torque – that is 27kW and 40Nm over the mainstream car. This power is still sent through the front wheels, using a short throw 6-speed manual.

The Civic Si also comes with a new dual pinion electric steering system, new stiffer suspension, solid compliance bushes, Type R control arms, adaptive dampers and more. Wheels wise, the Si has 18-inch alloys running in 235/40 sporty tires. Also, the front brakes are now 12.3 inch discs.

Cosmetic item wise, the Civic Si models come with new and more menacing bumpers, bigger vents and on the coupe a big rear wing. On the inside there are new sports seats, lots of red stitching, a new gear knob and other sporty touches.

The new Civic Si goes in sale in the United States in May. Nobody knows if Honda will bring the new Si and/or its engine down under – we’ll just have to wait. I personally think a more powerful model to fit between the RS and the Type R would sell very well in our market. What do you think? Let me know!
