2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS announced with Forza Motorsport 7

This morning, Microsoft took the wraps off their all new Forza game for Xbox One and PC, Forza Motorsport 7, along with a very, very cool new cover car – the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Before today, the GT2 RS must have been Porsche’s worst kept secret. A few weeks ago, car magazines such as EVO, Autocar and Wheels got first rides in the new, then-heavily-camouflaged car and revealed some interesting details. However, there’s no need for camouflage now – it has been officially revealed.

The GT2 RS essentially looks like a GT3 RS on steroids – it features more aerodynamic bumpers, splitters, and vents, and is just crazier overall. Further, it has two 911 R like black stripes on the bonnet. No official engine stats have been confirmed, but we do know it packs the 3.8L twin-turbo flat-6 from the 911 Turbo S, which has been beefed up with bigger turbos, more boost, a titanium exhaust system, better cooling and moore to produce over 480kW and 750Nm. This crazy power will be sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a 7-speed PDK (Porsche’s lightning fast dual clutch auto) and an electronically-locking LSD. 0-100km/h times are expected to be under 3 seconds, with 0-200km/h times under 9 seconds. Further, the GT2 RS is believed to have rear-wheel steering, suspension sourced from a race car, Gorilla Glass windows and 20-inch front and 21-inch rear magnesium wheels.

That is the end of the confirmed news. Porsche has not said anything is response to the E3 unveil – hopefully we’ll have something more to say in the next 24 hours. In the meantime, watch the E3 Forza 7 gameplay below:

What do you guys think of the new GT2 RS and Forza Motorsport 7? I’m really excited to (hopefully) get my hands on and play the game when it debuts in September. Tell me your thoughts below!
